Capability & Capacity

Murray W. Strong – Welcome & Services

The Renaissance was a transformative era that bridged the medieval world & the modern age across the 14th to 17th centuries.

It fostered a renewed appreciation for classical knowledge, artistic innovation, & human potential.

As with the first Renaissance & its significant political & social change, we are in the midst of similar ground shifts – this is expanding into other more traditional social structures & endeavours including religion, education & medicine.

Remote, globally collaborative activity is commonplace – the speed with which knowledge is transferred & evolves is almost instantaneous.

Almost the entirety of human knowledge is available to most of the population – information is ubiquitous – the challenge is determining what is true.

We are currently in the midst of the Second Renaissance – our time is characterised by similar features & challenges.

Background

Since 2001 I have had the pleasure of serving on 23 Boards of Directors, 18 as Chairman. Those Boards have been for companies, Crown entities, incorporated societies, large infrastructure projects, digital transformation programmes and statutory interventions.

Those experiences have enabled me to build considerable insights into how good Boards, organisations and executive teams operate, along with the many varied challenges organisations face in an increasingly uncertain but equally exciting environment.

This site, Second Renaissance, draws together the lessons from those experiences, and invites you to consider them relative to your operating environment and current context.

In addition to Chair roles, I’ve served on the full suite of Board Sub-Committees – Finance, Audit & Risk, Capital Investment, Transformation, Digital, Appointments, Performance & Remuneration, & Infrastructure and bring those insights and experiences to my client engagements.

Approach

My approach is characterised by recognising good practice no matter where it lives, & scaling it & replicating it & my leadership preference is to draw together seemingly disparate skills, functions, activities & resources to develop new ways of working. In addition this approach allows the development of elegant & practical solutions to seemingly complex problems & supports those with the executive responsibility to deliver on organisational strategies & plans.

I enjoy the opportunity to work with businesses and Boards that see the opportunity to change & refine their operating models & move quickly to take advantage of the myriad of new opportunities that are presenting themselves.  Be in touch via the links in the Contacts section or see me on LinkedIn here – Murray W. Strong

I hold a Masters degree, & have spoken widely on leadership, governance & strategy. In addition I have consulted for a wide range of public entities & private companies to assist them in improving governance practice, effect rapid change, develop strategy, establish new entityies and Boards, manage poor Board performance & worked with start-ups & scale-ups as organisations evolve.

Services

There are many areas I can assist:

      • Independent Chair/Director
      • Board and individual Director evaluation
      • Key note speaker and guest lecturer on the future role of governance in a rapidly changing world
      • An independent sounding Board for Chairs, Directors, and CEO’s
      • Transformation committee membership (independent)
      • Establishing new Boards and galvanising them around new co-created strategy
      • An independent organisational conscience, managing the fall out of difficult decisions, and a shield, offensive or defensive, for organisations undergoing considerable change.

I have been retained by Board Chairs, CEO’s, central government agencies and private firms to drive performance, support and coach new directors and Chairs, operate in the sometimes tricky space between Boards and C-Suites when things aren’t going well, turn organisations around, and have hard discussions with Chairs, Directors and senior executives about their future roles within organisations.  These difficult conversations are always conducted in a sensitive, considered & respectful manner.

If you’re in need of one of the above or a combination, please be in touch – murray@r2future.com
