The Carbon-Climate Conundrum

The difficult & conflicting challenges associated with managing emissions in a manner consistent with economic, social, political & technological considerations is a complex dilemma that lies at the heart of the climate debate, social licence & sustainability.

The dilemmas are stark: economic growth vs emission reductions, equity & just transitions, market driven commercial solutions & behaviour vs policy interventions, individual behavioural change, biodiversity & the planets limited carrying capacity.

I had the pleasure of being the speaker coach for TedX Queenstown for a few years from 2013-2016.  One of the compelling speakers I worked with was Tony Crabb.  His simple formula for making individual, organisational & significant reductions in emissions is expressed by the equation PxE=C – People x Energy = Carbon.

The simplest of ideas are often the best – people can see themselves making a contribution & can see where they fit.
